The kick off meeting will take place in Tours (France) on 19th and 20th May 2009. The meeting will be held at he Hotel de l'Univers, just a few minutes walk from the Tours central train station.

NADIR aims to facilitate the development of Europe’s high level  bio-containment facilities for which there is a strong demand from both the public and private sectors in the field of medical and veterinarian research, which have to respond to upgraded ethical and safety regulations whilst providing reliable answers in term of physiopathology for emerging infectious diseases (diagnosis, transmission conditions, risk analysis, therapeutic targets) or for vaccines and therapeutic trials.

To achieve this ambitious objective within the coming four years, the NADIR kick off meeting will launch the tasks in the three key project areas: Networking activities, Research and Transnational access to the consortium’s experimental infectiology platforms.
Actions to be discussed and initiated at this meeting include:

  • NADIR Consortium
    • Set up an Internet-based platform designed to organise and facilitate collaboration between partners in a secure and optimal way;
    • Strengthen the share of knowledge and know-how through the exchange of best practices, training, and the harmonisation of protocols through dedicated workshops;
    • Unify the management and exchange of material resources, including animal lines, in-house developed tools and new technologies;
    • Plan, structure and manage transnational access to the infrastructures owned by the partners;
    • Jointly undertake research and development activities aimed at upgrading the services provided by the infrastructures of the network: better characterise animal lines, customise imaging technologies, develop novel monitoring molecular tools, create new animal and/or cellular models, and prospect scientific applications offered by emerging technologies;
    • Elaborate joint recommendations for new ethical standards;
    • Develop a common vision of the future in terms of scientific and technology orientation.

  • Scientific community
    • Set up a common electronic gateway whose primary – but not exclusive – mission is to present all the services offered by partners’ facilities
    • Provide external organisations from both the public and private sectors with access to the network’s infrastructures
    • Improve and diversify the services provided by these infrastructures
    • Coordinate actions with related European project and initiatives
